The day started out cool and cloudy but the weather turned beautiful and it was a lovely fall day. The fun and fellowship included a paddle from Wingina to Howardsville just prior to the meeting and even the foot of mud on the boat launch didn’t dampen the spirits of the paddlers. There was good food, thanks to Roger’s culinary skills with hot dogs on the grill and everyone’s pot luck dishes (lots of beans!), and luckily everybody made it in time for the meeting and cookout. The Tavern on the James in Scottsville, Virginia was the location. The site was very nice and the food outstanding. Chairman Shaw called the meeting to order. Announcements about the sites and cleanups and the need for someone to be the ice vendor for the festival. Other people spoke about the Virginia Canals & Navigations Society publications and memberships. JRBF Spring Meeting in Scottsville – Sunday, May 15th, 2016

The spring meeting of the James River Batteau Festival was held at the Tavern on the James in Scottsville, Virginia. Representatives from most of the batteau groups were in attendance. Andrew Shaw, the new JRBF Chairman, talked about the sites and various announcements. Canoeists and other individuals not included in the immediate crew or ground crew of a batteau group covered by their batteau group's boat fee are asked to please pay a daily or weekly camping fee. These fees help cover the cost of portable toilets, insurance etc. Camping fees can be paid for at the T-Shirt booth during the JRBF or pay online in advance of the festival. JRBF Spring Meeting Held May 3rd in Scottsville.

The 2015 spring meeting of the JRBF was held in Scottsville at the Tavern on the James in the upstairs dining room. The room was packed with many old-timey batteau people and a whole lot of new faces as well. Chairman Ralph Smith led the meeting while recognizing former Chairman Norm Hansen of the batteau "Thomas Jefferson" (#4) and the next Chairman Andrew Shaw. There are 5 new boats being built. Two new crews and 3 old crews with new boats. The total number of boats was announced to be 22 for this year, which can always change as we get closer to the time to launch! Everyone was really excited about this being the 30th Annual JRBF! There will be a new version of the JRBF Trail Atlas available…

Tireless James & Fall Meeting for JRBF held at Howardsville – Sept. 12, 2014

The 2014 "Tireless James" event was held between the Wildlife Management Area down-river from Wingina, to Howardsville. Several Batteaux participated in this event which was sponsored by the James River Association. There were a lot of tires removed from the river that day! Good job everyone!!! Later in the evening the annual meeting of the JRBF was held at the Howardsville campsite owned by Mr. Jimmy Crews. A nice fire was in the center of the ring as everyone gathered around to hear Chairman Ralph Smith announce several items of interest to JRBF participants. Ralph Smith, JRBF Chairman will continue on through the 2015 JRBF, the 30th annual. Many people came and enjoyed good food with their batteau friends. Chairman Ralph Smith had a good meeting and was re-elected Chairman for yet another year while giving ample opportunity for others to step up if they wanted the job. Kevin Ferrell was elected as Vice-Chairman. DJ Barnard gave the financial report and all is well, even being a little more left over funds than the previous year. The festival is in good shape. DJ was re-elected Treasurer and Betsy Healy was re-elected Secretary. Festival dates for 2013 were confirmed to be the same as previous years; starting Father's day weekend which makes the festival dates…
