JRBF-2016-Howardsville – Goosby’s Falls

Batteau, Clifton Lee, Goosby's Falls, Howardsville, Scottsville
Howardsville was pleasant as usual on Tuesday afternoon. The Howardsville Ladies Club (the name I gave them) were in their usual perch above the beach with their lawn chairs and snacks and beverages visiting and waiting for the Batteaux to arrive. It was so nice to visit with them again. The rain came in the afternoon and evening and was enough to cool down the camp. The Masonic Lodge made dinners for sale and Wednesday am cooked sausage and egg biscuits for the batteau crews and was very nice. Wednesday the batteaux made their way to Goosby's Falls and the Mary Marshall went down one time and then poled back up-river around the island side and ran the rapids again! This is the first time I've taken photos of a…

Goolsby’s Incident report according to Charlie Davis, Capt. of the batteau “Virginia Creeper”

Batteau, Batteau Breakup, Howardsville, Scottsville, Virginia Creeper
[nggallery id=38] From Wingina to Howardsville we had major rain, at times you couldn't see 2 hundred yards. We lowered the canvas and a half a dozen kayakers came over to the batteau for shelter. Two women and one fellow stayed aboard for the rest of the trip. Jack and one of the women, Maggie the RN, hit it off over shots of bourbon. The guy who joined us, Henry, floated with us the next day to Scottsville. Wednesday on that trip we got locked up in the rocks about mid-river in some serious current above the falls at Goosby. Batteau, Grace of the James, Scottsville
[singlepic id=1159 w=320 h=240 float=center] [nggallery id=17] Thursday morning in Scottsville was laid back and nice at the High Meadow's bed & breakfast waiting for some crew members of the Grace of the James. Fancy breakfast with crepes and fruit etc were served. I got lots of leftovers and it was good. Due to waiting on the above, I missed most of the boats leaving Scottsville but I got a few photos. Thank you to the Scottsville Library. I parked in front of them Wednesday night and fell asleep in the rv as photos uploaded to the website. Holt

Scottsville – 2012 JRBF News

Batteau, Scottsville
The Town of Scottsville came alive on Wednesday night as the batteaux arrived! The festivities by the town center went well I heard. The Tap Room was crazy with old-timey batteau people singing and dancing until late in the evening. I'll get some photos of the boats at the ramp this morning and I'll "see you" at Slate River.
