After another shower late in the evening the night air had cooled down to a comfortable sleeping temperature! Arriving by the river as it was getting light Doug Berry and I took photos of the fog and clouds on the river.  The riverside came to life gradually and the batteaux got ready to go down to Slate River. Some left at a normal time and some didn't leave until 10 am or later. That's ok with the good amount of water in the river. It should be a good trip today and the crews…

There were some big mud puddles and some children delighted in playing in the mud. The food vendors were along the campsite by the river and included BBQ, smoothies and several other types. There were displays of arrowheads and scented soaps and the VC&NS Publications tent. The JRBF T-shirt tent with Tina were selling lots of shirts and hats etc. Some musicians played and sang old songs and it was nice to hear them. The sun had come back…

Ms. Polly Wooldridge was there and sent the photos above to share! Thanks Polly! Thursday the batteaux go to Slate River. If you are going, please be aware that the site moved last year to a new location, just across the Slate River (up-river on the James). If you are going by car from rt. 15, pass by the old Solite Plant and continue a few minutes until you pass over the Slate River, which would look like a creek by road, and the entrance to the site will be on your…

JRBF-2016-Scottsville-Wednesday-PM

Batteau, Scottsville, Scottsville Site of the JRBF
The batteaux came into Scottsville Wednesday evening and were greeted by many local people. There were many nice vendors set up along the camp by the river. Musicians played string music under a new wooden open style awning  near the canoe ramp. Children strolled along the walkway with their parents, some wanting to go in the water and play. Dr. Bill Trout and Philip de Vos from the VC&NS demonstrated a batteau going through a sluice with a nice display that Bill had built to run off batteries so he could show the children. The Tavern on the James was very busy and the food was great. Thursday the Batteaux head for Slate River.
