New London Day 2021
The old village of New London, Virginia is located a few miles west of the Lynchburg airport off us route 460, one block east of the traffic light at Turkey Foot Road. Parking is in the field beside the Alum Springs Hotel.
Holt Messerly is planning on putting up his new canvas tent and fly on Friday before the event. On Saturday Holt will show some enlarged photos from this years James River Batteau Festival. Many of the photos are also featured in the Summer 2021 issue of The Tiller magazine with Roger Huffman on the front cover onboard the batteau Brightwell’s Mill in Howardsville.
An Exhibit of Antique Cars will be in the front side yard of the Dr. Cabell’s Office in the center of town and the batteau photos display will be in the back yard.
Come early on Saturday and visit the Brush Arbor down the path in the woods near the campsite behind the old Dr. Cabell’s office in the center of town, across from Alum Springs Road and Town Fork Road intersection.
The African American Church on Alum Springs Road will have Mrs. Delores Nash Hicks as the host. She tells about history and shows many different artifacts. The Brush Arbor in the woods in the center of the path beside the church is where Delores will give a very special presentation outdoors about the history of the Brush Arbor. This is always a nice event. Delores has also helped the batteau Lady’s Slipper several times over the years.
The Alum Springs Hotel is going to be on the tour and the Meads Tavern.
Lots of history and students from Liberty University will be giving tours.
