The Boat Flipping at Byrne Nelson’s home was fun. Some Batteau Festival people drove down country roads from Scottsville following as a group to get there after the JRBF Meeting.
There were two boats there. The first was the batteau Queen Anne, being run by Brian Coffield and crew. The second boat is the Rosalee, run by Byrne and Roger Nelson and crew.
People gathered along the sides of the boats and lifted and moved around etc to flip the boats. This was not the first time for many of the old timers in attendance.
The shade under the huge White Oak tree behind Byrne’s house was nice as some people sat there and talked a while. Looks like a bunch of work ahead for both boats to fix places and oakum etc before needing to be flipped again and taken to the water to swell.
