The Virginia Canals & Navigations Society and the James River Batteau Festival promote the history of Virginias canal works and river navigation. Living history events with a batteau on display are participated in by many of the same batteaux and their crew’s throughout the year. In June the James River Batteau Festival is a historical re-enactment of a trade route from Lynchburg towards Richmond. Together the VC&NS & JRBF are helping to keep our river and canal history alive.
