Longtime VC&NS member Phil de Vos agrees to help with Event Calendar

The “Sweep” online has had the same growing pains that the old fashioned “Sweep” publication of many years ago had. PULLING TEETH TO GET THE INFORMATION TO PUBLISH!

Years ago the VC&NS used to send out a notice in the mail on a standard sheet of paper mailed in an envelope. This publication was called “The Sweep”. Upcoming events were listed for members to be informed. Gathering this information was the editor’s hardest job. That has not changed. PLEASE EMAIL YOUR INFORMATION TO OUR NEW ONLINE SWEEP EDITOR, PHIL de VOS. at phipfox@yahoo.com Thank you.

JRBF Fall Meeting

FALL MEETING – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1ST, WINGINA – 4:00

Message from Ralph Smith, Chairman, JRBF:

I want to remind everyone that as announced at the spring meeting in Scottsville, we will have the Fall Meeting Saturday October 1st 4:00 PM at Wingina. We have permission to camp Sat PM at the Wingina Site, dinner will be provided by the JRBF, so plan to come and take advantage of another opportunity to socialize with the batteau crowd. At this meeting we will discuss the current “State of the Festival” and you will have an opportunity to propose and discuss any changes which you feel might be beneficial to the festival. I am willing (might even say anxious) to serve another term as chairman and at this meeting I will propose a couple of initiatives, some of which I will be requesting help with. The overwhelming majority of feedback from the 2010 festival was positive, but there is always room for improvement and I hope and expect to have more time and energy to devote to the festival if chosen as chairman again in 2011. If you are interested in running for chairman, or if you know of anyone who is, please make your intentions known to me as we really should select a chairman at the fall meeting. We are in need of a Vice Chairman, and it should be someone who is willing and able to fill the chairman position at some point in the not too distant future. (maybe sooner if the Rucker takes the same line through Goosby again in next year!!!) We are also in need of a Treasurer. I want to thank Ellen Clarke for her years of service in that position, she always did an outstanding job. With the significant procedural changes as a result of futher integration into the VC&NS, she thought it was a logical time for someone else to assume this position. The scheduling of the meeting at 4:00 was intended to allow people the opportunity to spend the day in the James if desired. Depending on water level, if you get a reasonably early start you can put in at Dixson Landing at the James River State Park and canoe/kayak/batteau? to Wingina in time for the meeting as it’s only 4-5 miles or so. Please consider attending this meeting, I look forward to seeing everyone again.
